Letter to my Host FamilyMeet Emma, she is a bright student from France. She is looking forward to living with her American family and going to an American school. She lives with her parents and two cats; her sister doesn’t live at home but does come home for the weekends. “I would describe myself as a curious, creative, and caring person. My friends often say that I am a good listener and that I try to see the positive side of situations”. One of the biggest parts of her life is dancing. She has been dancing since she was 3. She also helps as an assistant in groups of young dancers. Books also play an important role in my daily life along with music. Emma enjoys traveling and learning new languages. She is currently learning Korean and Russian. Her favorite subjects at school Cinema, History, French and Philosophy. In the future, she would like to work in criminal behavior analysis.

Letter to my Host FamilyMeet Fanny from France! Fanny is extremely enthusiastic about the opportunity to spend an exchange year in the U.S. It is one of her “biggest dreams” and she has been focused on making it happen since she was young. Spending an exchange year in the U.S. is what has motivated her to study English. Fanny explains that she is extremely grateful for her friends and family and values those relationships highly. Her friends describe her as someone who is very kind, thoughtful, funny, emotional and reliable. One of her other dreams- going to an American football game and rooting for her team! She also loves all animals especially her cats Bambou and Ficelle with whom she shares a deep connection. Fanny loves to do crafts and dance (she is currently on a dance team). She also enjoys the self-discipline she gets from pushing herself at the gym and often clears her head by going for a run. She also enjoys all genres of music. Baking is also one of Fanny’s hobbies, her specialty is cinnamon rolls because she loves the smell. Fanny is overflowing with energy and excitement; she is more than ready to make the most of her exchange year here in the US.

Letter to my Host FamilyMeet Marly from Germany! She is always ready and prepared for her next adventure in life. Marly loves to find humor in situations and honesty is important to her. She is athletic and currently rides horses. She has been riding since she was very young. She used to own a horse and knows how to take care of them. When she is not riding horses, she plays tennis or at the gym working out. Marly just like her mom, loves kids. She babysits in her free time, hangs out with friends, and she loves going to her local soccer games. Marly has a family of 3 besides herself. Her mom, dad and older sister love to travel to other countries and learn new cultures. Both her mother and sister were exchange students in the USA. Letter to my Host FamilyTim describes himself as inquisitive, respectful, and vibrant young individual, always eager to explore new horizons and wholeheartedly engages in every endeavor he undertakes. Tim loves sports, particularly gym workouts/ weight training, running, and swimming. Additionally, he was a member of a JunoMichi sports club, a variant of judo, for 8 years. His artistic side: he loves drawing/art, creative projects and enjoys cooking. Family is very important to Tim. He also has a love for nature and relishes spending time outdoors. Letter to my Host FamilyMeet Julia who brings a unique perspective to the program as a German student from a Polish background. In school she speaks German, at home she speaks Polish. She is proud of her Polish heritage, and her family celebrates many Polish traditions. She would love to cook traditional Polish foods with her future host family including pierogies and chicken soup. Julia describes a very close-knit family life in which she enjoys shopping with her mom and helping with the housework. She is also very close with her dad and her older brother as well, even though he is now an adult living on his own. She is also a proud dog sister who loves and cares for her furry family member, Daisy. Her goals for herself in this program revolve around becoming part of her host family, joining their life and being part of their everyday activities. She also talks about wanting to use this experience to grow as a person, “I believe this experience will help me grow as a person, understand myself better and become more independent and braver.” She loves experiencing other cultures and would one day like to work in tourism or for an international company. Julia’s hobbies include swimming, she loves the water, going to the gym, cooking, watching movies and spending time with friends in nature.

She grew up in a close, loving family and brings that same warmth into everything she does. She helps with cooking, cleaning, and keeping the home running smoothly, and she especially loves baking with her mom. Active and energetic, she enjoys football, volleyball, and boxing—sports she’s been around since childhood thanks to her grandfather, a former coach. She’s deeply curious about the world, passionate about languages and international relations, and eager to learn from a new culture. She uses Salbutamol only rarely for mild asthma. As president of her Applied English Student Association, she’s already shown strong leadership and the ability to manage events and handle pressure with maturity. Outside of school, she stays active through boxing and handstand training and loves cooking everything from traditional Taiwanese dishes to pasta, steak, and curry. She’s also a big fan of musicals—both live and on screen—which she enjoys sharing and discussing with others. Hannah describes herself as 40% outgoing and 60% introverted: she loves exploring with her host family but also respects quiet time to recharge. She adores animals, enjoys trying new things, and is working hard to strengthen her English before arrival.
